Who I am

I’m Tim. I got my start helping my dad with projects around the house, and that turned into more than 10 years of framing, trim carpentry, remodeling, and general contracting. I have built decks, hung doors in old houses where nothing is square, pulled wire, and torn out a lot of kitchens. I work in tech now, but I still have every tool I have reviewed on this site.

Why I started this site

When I was about to spend a few hundred bucks on a new miter saw or impact driver, I wanted to hear from someone who had actually used it on a job. Most of what I found was the spec sheet rewritten. So I started writing up the tools I bought and used myself.

How I review tools

I bought every tool here with my own money and used it on the job. I pay attention to the stuff you notice after a full day of work, like how it feels in your hand, how long the battery lasts, and whether it holds up getting tossed in the truck. If a tool is great I will say so, and if it falls short I will tell you that too. You can see exactly how I test on the How I test page.
