Top 5 Best Framing Hammers
What is the Best Framing Hammer?
In this article, Tim will be reviewing the top 5 best framing hammers. Tim will break down each hammer, sharing the positives and the negatives, so you can buy the best framing hammer possible.
Why your framing hammer matters
A hammer seems to be such a basic tool. Whether you are doing demo work, pulling nails, or just hitting something to make it fit, you are using your hammer. It is the fact that you are using your hammer so often that makes choosing the right hammer a big decision.
A bad hammer can give off awful vibrations. Imagine hitting a rock with a steel rod. The vibrations from the rod go straight from the rod into your hands, and up your arms. You don’t want a hammer that is going to give off bad vibrations. Something else to consider is a hammer that vibrates is wasting energy.
Let’s dive in and look at the top 5 best framing hammers.

Estwing – GG417 Best Framing Hammer–Full Review
First off, let me say, I am a big fan of Estwing and have been using my Estwing GG417 Framing Hammer for several years now. I love Estwing GG417 because it does its job, and it does it well.
I am a tool abuser, the kind that uses the bottom of his impact like a hammer. The Estwing GG417 is built extremely well, I have not had a problem with the hammer going bad or breaking. I have noticed a little wear. The rubber grip on my Estwing GG417 has worn down a bit, but that is my only complaint.
Estwing is so confident in their products, that even if the hammer does break, they have a limited lifetime warranty. So, if you aren’t abusing your hammer, Estwing will replace the hammer should anything go wrong.
The combined attributes, such as the low price and the overall build quality put the Estwing GG417 in the number 1 spot on this list.

Stanley 51-177 22 Ounce Fatmax Xtreme Antivibe Smooth Framing Hammer-Full Review
Stanley is a large longtime manufacturer of tools branded under Black and Decker. Stanley is commonly thought of as the budget tool brand. The Stanley 51-177 22 Ounce Antivibe Framing hammer is more than just a budget tool. Stanley offers an unheard-of Lifetime warranty, should anything go wrong, they have you covered.
The Stanley 22 oz Antivibe Framing hammer feels nice in the hand with a nice rubber grip and balanced feel.
The Stanley 22 oz Antivibe Framing hammer comes in at a great pricepoint that rivals some of the competitors on this list by a factor of almost 9.
My only complaint with the Stanley Fatmax 22oz Antivibe is its nail-pulling capabilities and a rather odd pinging noise upon impact.
I feel that the Estwing is slightly better overall, due to its nail pulling capabilities and slightly lower price but, you cannot go wrong with this hammer for the price.

MILWAUKEE TOOL 48-22-9023 22Oz Framing Hammer-Full Review
Milwaukee; the red and black brand that so many individuals just have to have. Milwaukee has been in the game for a long time, developing thousands of tools. Milwaukee does a fantastic job with its tools and the 48-22-9023 Milwaukee framing hammer is no exception.
The 48-22-9023 Milwaukee framing hammer comes with a lifetime warranty, however, I don’t think you will need it. This hammer is built extremely well. It has a nice balanced feel that allows you to drive nails like a champ.
The biggest benefit to the Milwaukee 22oz framing hammer is the looks. All of your co-workers will be so jealous when you open your Milwaukee Packout and pull out that big red Milwaukee framing hammer.
The only downside apart from jealous friends is the nail pulling capabilities. The Milwaukee 48-22-9023 22Oz Framing Hammer is shaped almost like a stiletto as it has a straight claw design, which makes it not so suitable for nail pulling.

Stiletto TB3MC 15oz. Ti-Bone 3 Titanium Hammer-Full Review
Stiletto, the Lamborghini of hammers. Fast, light, stylish, what more? Oh…expensive. Why is it so expensive? The titanium head and handle made to eat the vibrations. Why do you need a titanium hammer? Because it is cool.
In all seriousness, if your job revolves around the use of a hammer it might be a good investment.
With a titanium hammer, an estimated 97% of your swing is transferred to the nail vs 70% for steel (finehomebuilding.com).
The first downside of this hammer is the nail puller. I have seen a few reports of the claws breaking off, but that could be misused.
The second downside with the Stiletto TB3MC 15oz. Ti-Bone 3 Titanium Hammer is the price and the warranty. How does a $270 hammer only come with a 1-year warranty?
Should I buy the Stiletto TB3MC 15oz. Ti-Bone 3 Titanium Hammer?
If the price doesn’t scare you, and you have to have the best of the best, then why not. The Stilletto TB3MC 15oz. Ti-Bone 3 titanium hammer is not budget-friendly, but if your job requires a hammer, it wouldn’t be insane to splurge on this one.

Stilletto TI14MC Stiletto Tools Titan 14-OunceTitanium Framing Hammer-Full Review
Here we are, the final hammer on the list, the second most expensive hammer on the list, the Stiletto Titan 14-OunceTitanium Framing Hammer.
The Stiletto Titan 14-OunceTitanium Framing Hammer is extremely well balanced.
The Stiletto Titan 14-OunceTitanium Framing Hammer features a full titanium head and a curved hickory handle.
The hammer is sure to make all your co-workers jealous with its sleek powerful looks.
The only downside of the Stiletto Tools Titan 14-OunceTitanium Framing Hammer is the warranty. Only a 1-year warranty on a hammer of this price is absurd.
Should I buy the Stilletto TI14MC Stiletto Tools Titan 14-OunceTitanium Framing Hammer?
If you have money to spend, go for it. This hammer is really geared toward a professional rather than a DIY’er because a professional will notice the difference after working an 8hr day, while the DIY’er may only use it once a month.
Final Verdict
All of the framing hammers on this list are great options, but the choice ultimately comes down to your budget and desired qualities.
